I live in a rural community in central Maine with my husband, adopted son, a cat and a dog that is spoiled rotten! I work within my community as a psychotherapist addressing mental illness, child abuse and neglect. On Jan. 22, 2013 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had two tumors in my right breast, both where very deep. One was 2cm and the other 3cm and they developed in less than a year. Early detection saved my life.
Two days before my 36 birthday I chose to have a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. When the test results came back I was told that I had both; DCIS and IDC. I have had two rounds of breast reconstruction. I was found to be in the “grey” area with my oncotypal testing and was told that chemotherapy would not be beneficial, so I am on medication for the next ten years.
