KRISTIN / KRISANN – “I RECOVERED BEAUTIFULLY AND IT WAS THE GREATEST DECISION I HAD EVER MADE FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY”

Kristin Munster McDonough (Left)

Breast Cancer, a word we hear all to often. I’ve heard this word much too often in my life. My identical twin sister, my mother and several aunts had been diagnosed with this ugly word “BREAST CANCER.” Although I had not been diagnosed with breast cancer the likelihood of me getting it was better than 90%. In 2010 at the age of 35 I decided to undergo bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, by doing this I would almost eliminate my chances of getting breast cancer. I recovered BEAUTIFULLY and it was the greatest decision I had ever made for myself and my family.

Krisann Munster Favreau (Right)

August 6, 2009 I got a call from my doctor that confirmed I had breast cancer. As you can imagine I was very scared I was 35 with three young children.

My options were to have a lumpectomy, go through six weeks of radiation and five years of tamoxafen or have bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction.

I told my doctor that I wanted to still look and feel like a woman with or without my clothes. We should all be so lucky to have doctors like Dr. David Branch right here in Bangor, Maine. I have had many women ask me about my reconstruction and I also show them. I am very happy with his work, they look great. I am happy with my decision about all I did and wouldn’t change a thing.
